"Words Have No Power to Impress the Mind Without the Exquisite Horror of Their Reality."

He was America's first international literary superstar, a writer whose intense psychological fiction and poetry shaped horror, sci-fi and detective fiction from their publication forward . . . and captured the imagination of illustrators and painters to this day.  But how, exactly, does one capture the inner workings of a troubled mind with ink and pen?

In conjunction with the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia, we will seek the answer to that question, exploring the works of early illustrators like Gustave Dore, Harry Clarke, Aubrey Beardsley,  Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Edouard Manet, to contemporary artists like working to capture the essence of the premiere master of the macabre.

Fundraising begins Friday, March 8, 2019.
